1st Annual WIU Hoof ‘N’ Horn Jackpot Lamb Show

On May 7th, the WIU Hoof ‘N’ Horn Club will be hosting the 1st annual Jackpot Lamb Show. The show will be held at the WIU Livestock Center.   The day will be started off at 8:00 AM with weigh-in of the lambs with the showmanship starting shortly after at 10:30 AM. The show will start at the conclusion of the showmanship classes.

This lamb show will be a doubleheader show, which means that there will be two shows in one day for show lamb enthusiasts to participate in. The doubleheader lamb show will be an Illinois Club Lamb Association (ICLA) Sanctioned Show, while all the ICLA Point Show Rules will be followed. The show is open to anyone between the ages of 5 and 21.

The livestock center is located at 2201 Wigwam Hollow Road, Macomb, IL 61455.

The WIU Hoof ‘N’ Horn Club is excited to announce the show judges for the day are James Thompson, Sam Mattingly, and Jennifer Livermore, who are either alumni or current students of WIU School of Agriculture.  As we have, create and produce talented stonk minded students who graduate and make a name fire themselves in the industry. Only making it appropiate to have them come back.

Starting at 8:00 AM, check in will be going on for the show.  This will include weighing in and classifying your lambs for the show. At this time, you will be able to sign up for the showmanship classes as well.  We encourage all exhibitors to get involved in the showmanship classes.

On show day, there will be an area for exhibitors to wash their lambs before or after the show.  We strongly encourage everyone to bring generators to use for the day, as space inside the livestock center will be limited.

The WIU Hoof ‘N’ Horn club is a livestock and animal science oriented orginization.  We promote closer relationships among students interested in livestock and animal science.  One of our big activities that we do throughout the year is putting on jackpot shows.  It was most fitting that our club

was able to add another show for the show lamb enthusiasts.

For more information or questions, you can contact Adam Heffelfinger, Hayden Wilder, Dr. Mark Hoge, Dr. Sam Cunningham or myself.

Be sure to mark your calendars and get eager and excited for the WIU Hoof ‘N’ Horn Club 1st annual Jackpot Lamb Show on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the WIU Livestock Center in Macomb IL.

me5Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.  My name is Molly Woods.  I am currently a Senior at Western Illinois University pursuing a degree in Agriculture Business. I am originally from Baylis, IL, which is 30 miles south of Quincy, IL.  I am fortunate enough to be able to live on a diversified family farm which consists of livestock and crops.  We raise and show cattle and sheep, while showing pigs during the summer.  We also grow alfalfa, beans, corn, oats, and wheat.  On campus, I am involved in CFFA/AGED/PAS, Collegiate Farm Bureau, and Hoof ‘N’ Horn.

Great to see WIU expanding and all the work Hoof’N Horn does. I’m sure the exhibitors will have a great experience working with everyone.
